Conservation areas in communities
At present, the natural conservation areas are mainly managed by the government.We are actively establishing conservation areas that comprise village people & local ecological culture. Based on the villages’ natural resources, we cultivate the people’s awareness to protect their environment, mobilize the local government to acknowledge & support the areas; & to promote to manifest the legal position of the conservation areas in legislation & regulations related to natural protection.
In April 1999, we founded the ecological conservation management committee in Suojia village & ecological supervision committees in 4 pastoral committees & had formally set up natural conservation areas in 5 Suojia communities. The “Green Globe Fund” (GGF) gave 16,000 yuan to the 16 herdsmen ecological supervisors & ecological supervision committees of the 4 pastoral committees to purchase 16 sets of telescope & 4 activity tents. The organizations started the inspection & supervision of wild animals in communities, which was the 1st time 40,000 sq. miles drainage areas of Dongqu, Moqu, Junqu & Yaqu in Suojia, south of Changjiang River source had effective NGO conservation.
